Stories Just to Keep You Company

The August Grove Logo, the name of the town with a tall clock tower

In a world so much like our own that it’s often hard to discern the difference, a not-so-small Georgia town lies comfortably along the Savannah River. The would-be city is not too far from Atlanta and Athens to the east, and fairly close to Savannah to the west. And like every other city or town, large or small, August Grove has its own brand of secrets, peculiarities, and unexplained events.

August Grove, however, might have more than its fair share.
A lot more.

In fact, so much happens there, it takes three story series to keep up with it all.

The Coffin Chronicles

Young black woman in t-shirt and jeans
Dashira Maiyana Coffin was fifteen years old when she ran away from August Grove. She didn’t run away to join the circus, but that’s where she landed. And perhaps found the first real home she’d ever had.The circus folk took her in, treated her as one of their own—a child of real magic. She grew up in the open-minded world of the carnival, and Dash and her amazing deck of magical poker cards flourished.

But now she’s back in her hometown to face her demons, and perhaps, everyone else’s as well. Every day brings a new adventure to the town’s most famous runaway as she and her friends confront the rising evil in August Grove.

Book 1 of the Coffin Chronicles is due out in 2023. The book begins as Dash Coffin returns home for the first time in a decade. She's not a child anymore, and she doesn't want to be here. But her cards begged her to come home because she's possibly the only person who can help.

An evil has come to August Grove, and until now, no one knew what to do about it. Children are being taken, toddlers, without a single witness to the kidnappings. Fear is seeping through the town like a plague. Where are the babies, and are they still alive? It's up to Dash to find out.

The Painted Trunk Mysteries

When mystery writer Tabitha Spencer learns Cleopatra Gleason is dead, her emotional conflict almost rips her to pieces. It’s always hard to lose a friend. Sometimes it’s even harder to lose an enemy. She and Cleopatra had been lifelong adversaries, and Tabitha felt no one knew Cleopatra better. In Tabitha’s heart, she knew Cleopatra would never commit suicide. “The Queen” loved herself even more than she hated Tabitha.

Imagine her surprise when she learns she is the only person in Cleopatra’s will, the new owner of an old, multicolored trunk. But the trunk, as with everything Cleopatra touched, comes with a catch. Her request from the grave: “Use the trunk to figure out who killed me.”

And thus opens a new world of mysteries—real life mysteries—that Tabitha never could have imagined. She finds blackmail, thievery, and murder, all within the confines of the painted trunk.

Clearly, the trunk has a lot of stories to tell, but will Tabitha survive to hear them?
